What Is Grok? xAI’s Assistant, Grok Imagine and Grok Bot Explained

Grok is xAI’s AI assistant, available at grok.com, in the iOS and Android apps and inside the social network X. What sets it apart is real-time search across public X posts and the web. Grok Imagine creates images and short videos, and Grok Bot is an AI “teammate” that carries out tasks inside your apps on its own.

The company name has changed more than once recently, so in brief: SpaceX acquired xAI on 2 February 2026. As of October 2026, the company presents itself on its website (x.ai) as SpaceXSI, and its consumer agreement is with SpaceXAI LLC. The company says it is separate from X Corp. (the X social network), although Grok is built into X.

What is Grok AI and where does it work?

Grok is a chat assistant that can answer questions, write, understand images and video, create and edit images, write code and analyse documents you upload. You talk to it by text or voice, in three places:

• grok.com in the browser;
• the Grok app on iOS and Android;
• X: the Grok icon in the X app and website. According to X’s help centre, Grok is available in every country where X is.

There are also Grok add-ins for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and for Google Workspace, plus Grok Build, a coding tool for developers. As of October 2026, the company’s newest and most capable language model is Grok 4.7 (September 2026).

You can also choose a persona for Grok; the company says some modes may give coarse or offensive replies, so use a neutral one for work and family.

The Grok app: how to start and does it work in Georgian?

1. Download the official Grok app from the App Store or Google Play, or open grok.com. Subscriptions are sold only directly: the company stresses that it has no authorised resellers.
2. Create an account and confirm your age: at least 13, and teenagers aged 13–17 need a parent’s or legal guardian’s permission.
3. On day one, check your data settings (see below).

You can write to Grok in Georgian, but we found no official statement of Georgian support or quality. Have a person read any Georgian text that matters, such as a formal letter or an ad, and compare the same task in other assistants: ChatGPT in Georgia, Claude AI and Gemini.

X posts as a source: why you must double-check

Grok decides for itself whether to search public X posts and the web, which makes it quick on breaking topics. But a post is not a verified fact: it can be an opinion, a joke, a mistake or deliberate misinformation. X’s help centre warns that Grok may confidently state incorrect facts, summarise wrongly or miss context.

Five rules when you ask Grok about the news:

1. Ask for links and open the original post or article yourself.
2. Check the date: old posts often circulate as new.
3. Check who is posting: an official account, a journalist or an anonymous user.
4. Confirm important facts in at least two independent sources.
5. Never base health, financial or legal decisions on Grok’s answer.

Grok Imagine: images and short video

Grok Imagine (grok.com/imagine and the apps) is xAI’s image and video generator. As of October 2026:

• Imagine Image 2.0 (August 2026) follows instructions closely and handles dense layouts with text. Editing tools include a magic wand that changes only the area you point at, background removal, up to 5 input images per generation, and smart resize to ratios such as 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9. Templates cover product photos, headshots, icons and posters.
• Imagine Video 1.5 makes video from text or an image in native 1080p. You can give up to seven reference images per generation to keep a character, product or location consistent across shots, and a voice reference keeps a character’s voice.

According to the plan comparison, image generation is limited on the free plan and fully included from Plus, while video generation starts with Premium. The company’s FAQ says you own your outputs and may use them commercially, though it asks you to attribute the work to Grok. The rules are strict: undressing real people or showing them in an intimate context, deceptively impersonating someone, and stripping watermarks or provenance metadata are all banned.

Grok Bot: an AI teammate inside your apps

Grok Bot launched in beta on 11 August 2026. It is not a chat: Bots have their own cloud computer, sign in to the tools you use and work in them as you would. You message a Bot like a colleague from your desktop (macOS, Windows), an iPhone or X Chat. Show a Bot a workflow once and it saves it as a routine to run on a schedule. Several Bots can work in parallel, pass work to each other and come back to you when they need approval.

What to know before you give a Bot access:

• One shared computer. The company says all your Bots share one persistent cloud computer (files, browser, logins), with isolation per user, not per Bot. Access you give one Bot is effectively given to all of them.
• Least access. Start with a test inbox and a sample spreadsheet, then connect real accounts step by step.
• Human approval. Keep sending email, payments and changes to data behind your approval. You can allow an action once, always allow similar actions, or deny it.
• Cost. Grok Bot is included with Premium, Super, Ultra, Teams and Enterprise, with weekly usage; extra usage is billed by token cost.

Grok plans and prices in 2026

On 12 October 2026 the company introduced The X Subscription: one plan for Grok, Grok Bot, the coding tool Cursor and X Premium, rolling out globally. Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax.

Usage is one pool shared by Grok and Cursor and refreshes weekly. Existing SuperGrok and X Premium subscribers can keep their plan or switch. The company recommends Premium for new AI users, but if you only need chat and images, try Free and Plus first.

Privacy and age

• Training on your data. Your Grok conversations may be used to train models. To opt out on grok.com, go to Settings, Data, “Improve the Model”; in the app, Settings, Data Controls, “Improve the model”.
• Private Chat. Turned on with the ghost icon: the chat does not appear in your history, is not used for training and is deleted within 30 days.
• Grok in X. X has its own setting: Settings, Privacy and safety, Data sharing and personalization, Grok & Third-party Collaborators, where you can stop your public posts and Grok chats being used for training.
• Shared links. A public share link can be indexed by search engines. Revoke links at grok.com/share-links.
